Our Program
Sunnylea Cooperative Nursery School is a licensed preschool offering care for up to 16 preschool children (final number determined by age group).
We offer flexible attendance options:
* Full-time (5 days/week)
* Part-time 3 days (Mon, Wed, Fri)
* Part-time 2 days (Tue, Thu)
Children must be 2 years old by December 31 of the calendar year to enroll. Children turning 4 by December 31 are not eligible. Children at Sunnylea do not need to be potty trained.
The school year runs September to June, Monday to Friday. We are closed in July and August.
Program Philosophy
Our philosophy centers on learning and socializing through play. The classroom is well-equipped with a variety of activities that rotate daily and weekly, giving children ample opportunities to explore, create, and engage. Children become comfortable with routines that include free play, circle time, and meals, and the school hosts special events throughout the year.
Each classroom is staffed with 2 to 3 teachers at all times, ensuring a strong teacher-to-child ratio. Well-balanced lunches and mid-afternoon snacks are provided by Wholesome Kids Catering.
Daily Schedule
Each day is structured to help children feel comfortable in the school environment. The routine includes free play, table activities that support fine motor skills and creativity, snack and lunch times, and circle time. The classroom features a library, with books rotated weekly and toys refreshed daily to keep children engaged. We also take a gentle, supportive approach to separation anxiety, working closely with parents and caregivers to help each child adjust at their own pace.
The day begins with a warm welcome from teachers, followed by free play. During this time, children can explore different areas of the classroom, such as the drawing table for art and early writing, or quieter activities like puzzles, books, and games. Children are encouraged to help tidy up before gathering for circle time, where they take part in discussions, singing, and early letter and number recognition.
After circle time, children have lunch, followed by quiet reading and active play. They then help clean up again before snack time. A second circle time may follow, and the day ends with tidying up and preparing for pickup.
